Loretta's Haiku Collection

After a trip to the bank:

They have pulled the plug.

No more tellers, no more mail.

Health care down the drain.

We think we are free,

But every day we lose ground

While they get rockets.

There is no more cash.

We use their cards and their apps

And pay all their fees.

We have to leave tips

Because employers don’t pay.

Yet we serve ourselves.

We once went on flights

And were served meals, snacks and drinks.

Even had leg room.

Now flying’s a risk

They might cancel or delay

Or go out on strike.

Our children lose hope

Much more quickly than we did

While bots take their jobs.

After some bites:

(Fran Harding mentioned that in some parts of Canada the black flies are so bad there was a song written about them. “Black lies, little black flies, picking at your bones in North Ontarioooo”.

Little black bastards

Always biting my ears.

I can’t hear the song.

After Kathi and Tom passed away:

Loved ones are dying

Memories live on and on

They never leave us.

He gazed at the stars

And sailed I gentle breezes

Now he’s part of them

For John Harding:

We have an old friend

We go back many years but

Memories don’t fade

For Melanie Boots:

We lived on our boats

Collecting stories to tell

Memories to hold

Our countries were friends

Facing the world together

Those days are long gone

At long last old friends

We finally reunite

It was worth the wait

For Darrel:

Darrel aged again

He’s turning seventy-three

He doesn’t look it

He is my best friend

And has been for many years

Together we grow

Misc.:

For the bids:

Hummer on the perch

Guarding his territory

May it’s a “she”

For the weeds:

Dandelions glow

And grow so effortlessly

Even when I mow.

For Tehja:

She has her degree

And she is now on her way.

There’s no stopping her.

For the hens:

Darrel has four hens.

He gave them a lovely coop,

Now they’ll give us eggs.
